I am a rising senior. I have taken both the ACT with Writing and the SAT Reasoning, but have yet to take any SAT IIs. I have looked into the schools which I am interested in, and none require SAT IIs for admission- but several say that they want either the SAT and SAT IIs or the ACT with Writing. I have two questions about such schools. First off, if I submit only the ACT with Writing to those schools, will it be looked down upon compared to the students who gave the extra information of their SAT II scores? Secondly, does this mean that I cannot submit the SAT without also submitting the SAT II scores which I do not have, even if I also submit the ACT with Writing? The college websites are unclear about these implications.

I don’t see why you would be “looked down upon;” you’re submitting what they require for admission. You may want to still try some SAT IIs just to see how you do, though.

You can’t submit something you don’t have, so submitting your SAT score will not somehow send your nonexistent SAT II scores. If you do decide to take some SAT II tests but do poorly, you can still submit just your SAT score (and no SAT II scores) using [score choice](Send SAT Scores to Colleges - SAT Suite | College Board).

SAT II just seems like a Collegeboard money-grab to me…

I agree, the sat IIs seem like a way to make money.
but i think the reason why its not required with the ACT is because of the science part the ACT has. its more “well rounded” so to say than the SAT because of that extra section maybe?
I dont think you should worry about it being looked down upon. Submit whatever you did better on. thats what i would do. I dont think it would be looked down upon at all :)

Panda, I just looked at some of your past posts to see what sort of scores you would be sending…

Gee whiz! Send them ALL. They are great, and it shows you do VERY well on both tests.

My son submitted ACT with writing and SAT only. He never took SAT IIs. He was accepted to a number of highly selective colleges, several with merit money. Don’t worry about it. If your scores are good, send them all and enjoy a test free fall!

I think it would be better to take the SAT with SAT IIs. Personally I enjoy having the separation of tests so i can focus on one things.

If you have an excellent ACT all ready, I think taking the SAT IIs is unnecessary. However, if you you haven’t yet taken the ACT, TheMan’s strategy may work better for you.
