ACT Writing-- to take or not to take

I'm debating whether to take the writing section for the ACT, considering its optional. I looked into the scoring conversion and my english score could considerably lower if my grader is not satisfied with my essay. I hate subjectivity in a standardized test...grrr

does anyone know anything more, or if colleges require that the writing section be taken? what are your opinions?

Mmm... I'm not sure. I think they did that to match the SAT's new SAT + Writing. That way, the ACT + Writing would be weighed the same as the 2400 SAT, just like how the regular ACT was weighed the same as the 1600 SAT. I do know that my counselor is recommending that juniors and below take the ACT+Writing though.

The UC's require either the new SAT, or the ACT PLUS Writing....other schools may differ; check out their web pages.

It depends on the colleges that you will be applying to but there are a number, particularly high ranked colleges, that will be requiring that writing section if you intend to rely on the ACT for admission.

Pentasa,

If you go to the ACT website you can look up the colleges that you are interested in to see if they require you to take the writing portion.
