<p>How much does the writing score really matter? I got a 36 on the English, but then an 8 on the subscore and a Writing/English score of 32. My Composite was a 35. Does it impact your composite in anyway?</p>

<p>How seriously do admissions officers take the ACT essay grades? Wouldn’t an application essay be a better measure of writing skill than a formulaic, unrevised essay that was graded in 60 seconds?</p>
<p>i got a 35 with an 8 as well.. it’s not gonna matter at all… an 8 is average.. and the writing is more of a research thing than anything else… the composite is what matters, and then an 8+ (a 30+ on the combined english/writing score as well) is perfectly fine… here’s what i had:</p>

<p>I would hope they would. Many on this site have found that by using “big” words, using an analogy (such as a character like Gatsby), and writing at least two full pages, you are almost guaranteed a good score. 30 minutes is not enough time for many writers to show how talented they are, so they receive lower scores. I’ve seen (top) schools that do disregard the section because the section is too unreliable. Application essays allow talented writers to show their abilities much more so than the ACT essay.</p>
<p>^^^ that’s how i am… i can write the hell out of lengthy research papers and kick out high A’s on them… but i can’t seem to get above an 8 on these stupid, formulaic essays</p>

<p>Yeah, it definitely is. And for the SAT at least, the writing section doesn’t really hold that much weight so I guess that’s why you writing/english score isn’t factored into your composite</p>
