Act ***

So I've started thinking about college and I just remembered my ACT scores.
My practice ACTs were generally like this:
Comp:32
E 33/34
M 30/31
R 34/35
S 30/31

So after hoping for at least a 31 preferably a 32 I got my scores back...
Comp:30
E 33
M 30
R 27
S 30
Essay:10

Are you kidding me? How do I go from a 34 to a 27? You do not know how much I practiced for reading... During the test I felt great and i was thinking I probably only missed one question then I get to the last passage and it is about insects or some other bull and they include specific genus names in the questions... I was getting so mad I could hardly focus. I was just thinking why is this here? This was like a science type passage... I had to guess for around 4 questions from that passage. It's really sad and now I for sure have to take the ACT again.

Sorry for the rant I just want to know how I can ensure a good score and I really need some tips on how to pace myself during the reading and science sections. I'm positive I can get 32+ on the ACT with enough preparation. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

The last passage will always be about science. It will have loads of information that probably make your head spin. They’re not testing your knowledge, they’re just testing whether or not you can read a passage and answer the questions that follows. An advice is to underline those nouns, dates, and transitional adverbs. It should help, but everyone has their own method.

Same thing happened to me, except on the english section. Usually got a 30 on practice but ended up with a 25 on the actual exam. Could I ask how you studied for the reading? I’m aiming for at least a 33.

I just read with full concentration and try to remember every detail. Sometimes I look at the questions for 10 seconds so I know what to underline.

ACT Reading is inconsistent and irritates me more than any other section. On practice tests, I could score anywhere from 30-36. It is the timing of the test that messes me up; you had better be a FAST reader. I would take SAT Critical Reading over ACT Reading any day; for me the vocabulary questions are more of a blessing than a curse, and I actually have time to read the passages and answer the questions!

My son agrees. The reading section was the hardest for him since he is not a speed reader.
