What is ACT??

I mean to say what is the difference between SAT and ACT??

SAT has 3 parts - Critical Reading, Math, Writing. Most colleges use only the CR+M score, and “superscore” your results (add together best section scores across multiple sittings). The ACT has 4 parts - English, Math, Reading, Science (plus a Writing section that is not included in your composite score). Most colleges do not superscore it, but some do. Both types of tests are accepted by all U.S. colleges. For ACT, most schools require that you take it with the optional Writing component at each sitting.

The SAT is usually considered to be trickier, with more traps and trick questions. The ACT is more straightforward, and is a shorter, faster-paced test. The sections on ACT are always in the same order, whereas the SAT alternates between sections. Some colleges that require SAT subject tests (SAT II’s), will allow ACT in place of those.

In general, girls tend to perform better on ACT than SAT. The opposite is true for boys. Some people do much better on one than the other.

Which is better SAT or ACT?

What is Critical Reading?

You should take a practice test of each and figure out which is better for you. You can find tables online that show how ACT scores match up to SAT scores, since they are on different scales.

Colleges don’t care which one you submit.

Critical Reading is the section with reading passages that you have to answer quesions about. There are usually several answers that seem like they could be correct, so you have to choose carefully and watch out for tricks. It also requires a good vocabulary. I would think this section would be especially difficult for a non-native English speaker, if that applies to you. ACT’s Reading section is very similar, but not as tough with the vocabulary.

Which books should i prefer for this…
and one question is SAT(1) and SAT(2) both are compulsory?

For ACT, get the red book called “The Real ACT”. For SAT, there are a lot of opinions, but start with the book put out by College Board who administers the test (The Official SAT Study Guide).

SAT II’s are required by Ivies and some other top tier schools. Some of those will take ACT to fulfill all testing requirements, so check each college’s website to verify. Some schools want you to at least take SAT II in any foreign language you plan to study in college, for placement purposes.
