I haven't taken the ACT before, but I'm considering taking it in the fall. I'll only have time to take it once though, and I haven't ever prepared for the test. Do you think I should go ahead and take it ....or is it too risky?

Do I have to turn in a bad ACT score if my SAT score is better?
Does the ACT have a curve similar to the SAT?

Taking the ACT is risk-free, unless you consider $30 and getting up before 8:00 on a Saturday a huge loss. You don't have to send your scores to anyone, and you can even ask ACT to take your scores off their records if you're humiliated.

Anyway, there's a practice test in this ACT booklet. You should try it.

If you study for it and know what to expect on test day, you should be fine. Lots of people take it only once, and the beautiful thing with the ACT is that you have score choice...you can report just one score. Wish College Board did that for the SAT.
