I think the middle 50% of ACT scores is 28-31. Does that mean a score of 27 is out of the question??? Did any of you submit ACT score only and no SAT scores?

25% of the student were below 28, so no, it's not out of the question

your figures are old or are the matriculated figures. The average admitted act was a 31 last year. A 27 isnt out of the question but its going to need a strong hook and gpa.

Do you think admissions looks at the ACT composite score only? I did well on the english (31), reading (30) and writing (29), but not too good on math and science.

they look at parts, but the composite is really important too. like the posters above, those with lower test scores need to make up for it. it doesn't make it any easier for you. thats for sure.

yea, I agree with the person above me, but 27 on the ACT does translate to an 1830 which isn't bad. Then again, the average SAT is between a 1900-2100, 25% scored below, and 25 % scored above. The thing about BC the admissions officer told me was that even though there are only 2, 400 spots they admit almost 7, 000 which increases the chances of the applicants being below the middle 50% and above the middle 50%. I recently read an article that was posted yesterday about BC and how their EA applicants dropped down drastically so you may have a better chance. Good Luck!

superwoman, sorry but i don't think you can make a correlation between ACT scores and SAT scores. A 27 does not equal an 1830, it equals a 27. Boston College's range supposedly is 28-32; however, keep in mind that the 28 is much less common. you're gonna need quite a bit of luck, and back the score up with a tremendous GPA, courseload, and EC's not to mention an outstanding essay

EDIT: and yes, i just submitted my ACT score (31) and was accepted EA. My SAT scores (1930) would not have made it in time to be considered and i wasn't really into paying to send mediocre scores.

I got the correlation from collegeboard so they must be wrong I guess. Anyway I don't think 1 point would be the disqualifying part of your application. If 25 % is below most likely theirs a variety of lower scores & cohen139-1930 is certainly not mediocre I think that's great. Your already in the middle 50 % so it was probably expected you would get in. Anyway, I think u can have a chance with strong app. Materials. Good luck!

superwoman, you say there are only 2,400 spots but they admit 7,000....can you explain?

It makes sense for every school to look at a student's individual scores, but you have to keep in mind the Jesuit traditions behind BC's philosophy of schooling. Sure you did well on 3 out of the 5 areas, but a Jesuit education is more of an all around education, much like the classes you take in high school.

BJAG, every school admits more applicants than they have room for in its freshman class since not every student accepted will choose to attend that particular school. No school -- not even Harvard -- has 100% yield from its acceptances.

worried_mom- Thanks! That's exactly what I was going to say to tell you the truth I was shocked when the admissions officer told me especially since some students can be applying to BC because it's their dream choice, while other students see BC as their "backup" or "safety" which can be extremely hard to believe. He said they don't expect everyone that is admitted to come to the school especially since these days many students have a plethora of options in terms of other schools.
