Is the ACT as important as the SAT to colleges on the East Coast? Since on this website, about 80% of the focus seems to be on the SAT. I hope the ACT is viewed as favorably as the SAT since my 31 composite score ( 33 Math, 33 Reading, 29 Science, 28 English, 8 essay) is MUCH better than my 1860 SAT score ( 680 Math, 600 Reading, 580 Writing). After I recieved the news of the 31 on the ACT I decided to not take the SAT again since I assumed they were equal in the eyes of colleges. Did I assume wrong in a SAT dominated world?

Nope....you are right on target....31 is a great score.....You can either be done, or even try again on the ACT if you are applying to Ivies or top 20 schools....then choose your highest single sitting score to send (or if you are applying to schools that superscore the ACT you can send both if some of your scores can be mixed and matched).

Just curious, did you prep for the SAT that you earned an 1860? Did you prepare for the ACT?

I did not prep much for the SAT other than the PSAT and the SAT practice we did in English class.

I did take one previous ACT (without writing) which I earned a 29 composite score. I also studied more for the ACT (especially for math) than the SAT.

great results........good luck with the process.....
