Hi. How many people really take the ACT? I barely know anybody who takes it. It is really a good alternative to the SAT? Can someday tell me if it is really a good idea to take the ACT or if the SAT is just a wiser choice? Thanks.

the ACT is predominately taken in the midwest, and to a lesser extent, the south. I think everywhere else mostly takes the SAT. As to which is better, most schools will accept either, but might prefer one depending on its location.

I'd check the schools you want to go to. Most take both, but yeah, I heard midwest schools prefer ACT. I have only just started looking at prepping (gonna be a soph this fall), but ACT looks like a better test to me.

I do! I do! I'm from Grrrrand Rapids, Michigan. Popularity is based on where you are, basically. EVERYONE here takes it, and about 30 kids end up at U of M each year, and plenty go to lots of other places. My lab partner got into Penn and only submitted an ACT score. I think the state is going to replace our junior-year MEAP (Michigan something something) tests with the ACT soon. Which is good, because MEAPs are dumb. (Sorry, off topic) =)
