It is misleading to show Northwestern as having an active waitlist. They announced today that they have more acceptances than expected and wil have only a little waitlist activity. There is a thread on the NU site.

My S got a call from NYU this afternoon. They are giving him 2 weeks to decide. My daughter is waiting to hear from Notre Dame.

So I will add NYU to the list

Yes. He put a deposit ($350) down at SUNY Binghamton and was planning to go when we heard from Boston University. We now have a deposit down on BU ($650). We are waiting to hear what BU has to offer in terms of financial aid. I can’t believe NYU called today!

They were not going to give us any information until we put down a deposit. To tell you the truth BU is his dream school (as is NYU). I don’t know how exactly we will swing it if the financial aid is not good, but we will try. If it is truly impossible, we still have a place at Binghamton.

You should withdraw your place at SUNY. It doesn’t seem reasonable to me that they require you to put a deposit before you know your FA.

Two years ago, there was a student accepted off Duke’s WL as my daughter, except she needed FA. She didn’t have to give a deposit until she got her FA.

As soon as BU gives us some financial aid information (probably tomorrow), my S will withdraw from SUNY. I really feel for the Bing kids and hate to have them waiting.

Gulp…the money spent on the admissions process is incredible. Let’s see there was the tutors, the test prep courses (ACT, PSAT, SAT), the test fees, the AP fees, the application fees and that is just off the top of my head. It seems we have gone this far, I would hate to lose deposit money, but my husband and I are committed…or maybe we should be committed.

CB, seems like you have your head on straight. I assumed you meant that you had to put down the SUNY deposit, while waiting to hear from NYU and BU on finaid.

I wouldn’t be so fast to put a deposit down on NYU. I would compare FA from both schools to try to get the best aid.

Someone I know has FA from BU, but needs 3.5 to keep the aid. If aid is just a caveat then it’s fine, but if it’s important to you then just make sure you are comparing apple with apple. To get a 3.5 in is a lot harder than in HS.

Chinablue, did you read the article on BU’s aid that’s been floating around here? And the one about NYU calling admits to warn them not to commit if money is a problem? They are both clear in that their aid goes to their top candidates. It’s unbelievable they would want a deposit before showing you the package as schools fairly certain not to meet need.

Hamilton’s waitlist is not active yet…
I just called the director of admission office yesterday.
They said they wouldn’t know until next Monday…
