I'm fretting about my activities essay....
I wrote one about tutoring, but I thought that tutoring doesn't really stand out, since many people do it. Then I wrote one about starting a club, which is alright, only it already is listed on the app.
So, now I'm thinking about writing about going to a national math contest (ARML) and also my obsession with making crazy programs on my calculator (like Minesweeper and Poker and randomly-generated Sudoku, etc). I think that would definitely make me stand out.
the issue is... is it ok to write about both in one essay? There might be a balance issue. Should I just stick to writing about programming? Would it make me seem to one-sided? I've won writing and musical awards, which may show up on the addtional info section, so hopefully that will counterbalance this essay focused on my math-related passions.

if you’re talking about the 150 word common app most meaningful activity essay i would definitely focus on either programming or the math contest because you simply don’t have enough space to explain 2 (let alone 1)

if it is the main essay, well, personally, i would still focus on one of them

I agree with the above. Try to stick to one.
