Activities List Inquiry - Music

Hello, I’m a rising senior who has been stalking this site for a while. I decided to create an account because I couldn’t find an answer to one of my millions of questions on Google.

I was wondering if I’m supposed to include band and choir (in school subjects) on the activities list. I didn’t think I had to because colleges will already be able to tell that I was in them from my transcript. I’m also an active member of Tri-M, so that seems like a good indicator of my musical interest. I don’t think adding them will help, since I don’t have “noteworthy” personal achievements in either group, but my mom thinks otherwise. I’d love to receive some insight as I continue to drown in the college process!

I think you should, because they include time spent outside the classroom (concerts, practicing, etc). But I probably would not include the classroom time as part of the hours/week estimation.

You can create one activity called Music, put “see additional info” in that tiny description space. Then in additional info have a header that says “Music”, and bullet out your music activities.

Thank you very much! The Common App has divided “Music” into “Instrumental” and “Vocal,” so I’m either going to list them separately in Activities or use Additional Info section.

Thank you very much!
