Hello,
I am an international student planning to apply for transfer to WUSTL. I have a few queries regarding the activities that are available for students. For example, here in my country we have lots of fests, conferences, simulations, and stuff happening and a student would get loads of opportunities to take part or be in the organising team. I am interested in business, so I generally am very active in organising these things. My question is, do these things happen in colleges in US? To put it more specifically, what is the scope for being in organising committees in colleges?

p.s: I am sorry if I were vague, but since I have no idea about the student life in the US, my query cannot be more specific than this.

Hi! I’m not a student myself, but a friend of mine goes to Wash U and does a lot of this stuff. It’s my impression that there are a lot of student activity boards who organize things like concerts, festivals… This is pretty universal around the US. A cousin of mine goes to Bradley (a university in Illinois) and was involved in bringing fairly famous bands and musicians in for concerts this year.

Hi Maelstrom,
I’m a junior at Wash. U. and another international student. There are over 200 student groups on campus with leadership positions in abundance. If you want to be a leader, there is room to step up either in student government, campus publications, cultural groups, you name it we’ve got it. There’s a group called Team 31 that organizes a big concert every semester in the Quad. There are students who create and run shows. Hope that helps.

You sound like a really motivated individual I am a current student at WashU. The intramural sports scene is popular-- I don’t play in one myself, but have many friends who do (from basketball, soccer, tennis to ultimate frisbee, etc) The club and organizations scene is IMMENSE. You can check out the Campus YMCA page on the school site, or the page of the Office of Student Activities- [Office of Student Activities - Washington University in St. Louis](http://www.getinvolved.wustl.edu/)

Leadership is a big thing on campus; there are many organizations that seek to develop leaders, and there are also leadership training programs.
