activities resume help!

Hey Everyone,

I have a question about my activities resume. I am wondering about the tenses, for some of my ECs I wrote a description, and for activities which I am still involved in should I use the present tense?

For example, If I am still involved in an activity should I write

So and So Club or should it be.. So and So Club
MEET with teachers to... MET with teachers to...

Also the activities I have already done in the past will be in past tense. Is it okay to have both past and present tense in an activities resume?

Thanks! :)

Don’t sweat it, collegesearch!

Switching from past to present to highlight current and past activities should be fine, although I don’t think they will ding you for incorrect usage of tenses. Honestly. :)

Just wondering: how are you formatting your activities resume? I found a sample online, but I’m not sure if it’s legit.

Do you think it would be better to use full sentences for the descriptions?

I’m formatting mine by placing name, address, phone # at the top as sort of a header. Then I’m making categories such as education, awards and honors, activities, work experience, and placing the appropriate things in each category.

This is pretty similar to what mine looks like kirkwoodschools.org/khs/upload/Resume.doc although I made mine look a little more professional.

Hope this helps! :)

Ohh gotcha, thanks!

I used phrases instead of sentences because I got tired of writing “I established XYZ club, where I was responsible for organizing ABC” for most of my activities. So instead I have a variation of ‘Position (9, 10, 11, 12) - Description of club -My responsibilities and contributions.’

Thanks for providing the link! Instead of Work Exp, Education, Activities, etc for categories though, I grouped my stuff by the topic (Business, Journalism, Music, etc) so my focus areas would be more obvious to the reader.

No problem.

That seems like a good idea. I guess as long as its organized and looks neat, it’s fine!
