I'm confused about how to list on the Common App activities w/associated honors. For example, I participate in Mock Trial (activity), and I won the Mock Trial MVP award (honor chosen by the judges). It seems like I should list Mock Trial under activities and list the MVP award under Honors but doing so would make those sections cumbersome/long as I have several activities/honors like this. What would you recommend?

Also, would I list volunteer/service under the activities section? I have a resume I'd like the colleges to have--would I send it separately by mail?

Thank you---

I would drone tell put mock trial under activities and includ the MVP award in the accomplishments section under activities. It would be redundant to put it also under honors in academics section. I am not sure why to do exactly but I’m am thinking the academics honors are as it is: academic honors. That would mean grades and academic distinctions… Not too sure though

Definetely* not drone tell

Ok–thanks, that makes sense.
One other: I was selected to participate in Youth Leadership Franklin, which was a year-long program designed to help future leaders cultivate their leadership skills. I had to apply for it, submit transcript, teacher rec etc–kind of like a Gov School app. Would you list that under Activities or Honors?
Thanks again!

I was also involved in a year-long leadership program and I’m not sure what to place that under as well so bump

Activities. If, at that program, you received an award, THAT would go under Honors.

Would putting something in Honors and activities look bad? I completed the highest level of piano testing for MMTA SAT and plan on putting this in the Honors section. However, I’m also putting this in the activities section since I’ve been playing piano for a long time. Would this be too redundant?

If I add it to honors and activities, would reiterating the honors achievement in the description section of the activity be too much? I’m applying to very competitive ivy schools.

For anyone looking this up who has the same question I did, I decided to put my piano things in both the honors and activities section of the commonapp. I ended up getting into Yale scea (still in disbelief), so I wouldn’t discourage doing that. However, if you have a lot of activities and honors with limited spots, don’t double dip and just stick it in one place and save space for other stuff. I didn’t have that problem, so I put it in both honors and activities.
