There are two boxes to describe extracurriculars: "Position/Leadership description and organization name" and "Details, honors won, and accomplishments." What goes in which, and should I put more info in the additional information section since each only holds something like half a tweet worth of words?

It doesn’t matter a ton as long as the info gets into the application. My kids both had one or two ECs where there was just too much stuff to fit into the “tweet worth of words” space (great analogy, by the way!).

What they did was list the EC. Say, “Quiz Bowl” and then said “See Additional Information section” in the description.

Then in the additional information section of the Common App, they had a section that said:

Extra Curricular - Quiz Bowl
- 9th - 12th - High school team member. Specialty areas literature, art, opera, history.
- 11th-12th - Team captain
- 10th, 11th - Attended ACE Quiz bowl camp for one week in summer
- 9th - Top scoring freshman in X State tournament
- 12th - 3rd ranked player in X State. 1st place individual finish in SnoCat Tournament with over 350 participants.

They just listed all the key info on the activity, and put their awards in there as well. Use bullets and be concise, though. Worked okay, great admissions results for my kids. :)
