Activity Dilemma!

Hi all,

I'm struggling with a very difficult issue, the question of whether I should do marching band or cross-country the fall of my junior year.

For some quick back story, I did HS marching band as an 8th grader, loved it, and continued it my freshman year. At the end of my freshman year (2009-2010) the program was cut. We had the opportunity to be in a neighboring town's band this year, but I couldn't because I'm a runner and was involved with cross-country. I ran XC and was in marching band at the same time my freshman year; because they were at the same school I could make it work––but with marching band no longer in my town, I had to make a choice between the two. This year, I ended up running XC.

Now I feel like I should do marching band. I could attempt to do both, but my junior year schedule is very rigorous! I seriously doubt I'd be able to do both without sacrificing crucial sleep hours...that would be too physically and emotionally taxing. Marching band is a real passion of mine. I did cross-country this year because it was at my school, and I was the #3 runner as a sophomore. I just assumed that it was the right decision. I don't regret running, but I'm just not as passionate about it. My concern is that giving up XC would a) - be throwing away a talent instead of developing it further, and b) - look bad on a college app. Obviously sports don't always make or break an application, but considering I was on varsity I think it would look bad if I quit now after 2 years...

This really should be a no-brainer because marching band is my passion, but I'm still really conflicted. Any thoughts? Thanks!
