Activity Essay - Must I write about...

In the common app, they have two sections for activities - one where you list everything you've done, and one where you elaborate on a singular activity

I have two clubs extremely important to me: Model United Nations and Speech & Debate.

The thing is, I am President of MUN, and have lots of awards and leadership, and one of my recommendations is from my euro teacher who is also my advisor for MUN.

However, I am Vice President of Speech & Debate and have lots of awards there as well, but because it was already a pretty successful club before I got there, there wasn't much for me to prove and change for the club. My time in this club has mostly benefited me though I haven't done too much to have any significant influence on the entire club.

But in the end, Speech & Debate means a lot more to me than does MUN. I could write a much better essay about this than I could about MUN, but I don't know how it looks if all my observable strength in leadership lies in MUN.

Do you think, because my teacher is going to write about MUN in his rec anyway, I can write about Speech & Debate for my activity essay to balance it out? Or should I just stick with what "seems" to be more important to me?

by all means go for Speech and Debate! If you’ve got that much passion for it then it’ll definitely make a great essay. The leadership is already being shown in your recc and activity list… :)
