Activity List vs. Resume

Hey everyone, I'm finishing up my transfer applications but am having a little issue with conveying the importance of my ECs. If I were to use the Resume format, I would want to keep it to one page and go for the more professional look. However, I can easily expand on all of my extracurriculars with an activity list that would probably be like 4 pages. I feel like the resume just cuts everything too short, and I really want to provide the admissions officers with as much info as possible. So would an Activity list lose the professionalism of a Resume? By the way, I'm applying to Penn (Wharton), Duke, Dartmouth, and UVa for transfer admission. Thanks for the replies.

If I were you, I wouldn't give them four pages. I'd try to condense it all into a sort of expanded resume, maybe two pages tops - shorter, but maybe with more impact? I don't know. I'd just be worried about ****ing off adcoms by making them read page after page of my achievements.

By the way, how many activities have you got? Sounds like TONS. I'm glad we're not applying to the same schools :)

What activities do you have that you want to include past the single page format?

My activity list spanned six pages.

What is the distinction between an activity list and a resume?

nspeds: How many pages did you send to Yale?

All six pages, in addition to a 25 page paper on ethics.

What is the distinction between an activity list and a resume?

Oh man...
I think that I am not sending an activity list to Yale :/ Anybody who I talked to who did, didn't get in. I am thinking, Yale didn't put it on the application, so maybe they base their decision on other things...
What do you think?

P.S. why the paper in Ethics?
P.P.S. WOW.

You are confusing correlation with causation. So few are admitted into Yale do begin with, so it is difficult to draw a generalization. The inductive support is too weak.

It demonstrated my level of scholarship.

I know that the evidence is small. The question is - should I risk it? I mean - why, oh why did they not put it on there???? It will be a difficult decision.

My son did an activities list for all of his colleges. Anything that could not be fully described with the space limitation on the common app. he stated on the list. He did not repeat info. but asterisked with ecs. or awards - see additional information. He divided by year, beginning with 12th grade - obviously you would begin with most recent college year - and down to ninth grade. Again, he only listed what could not be explained due to space on common app. It was 3 and one half pages only due to large font - hey, they could actually read something with out glasses. Started with sports (awards, etc.), work experience, ecs. It worked for him and his sister. Just gives them more info. to distinguish you. Again, don't repeat what is obvious on the app. Graduate school a different story. My daughter had to submit a real resume. Good luck.

There is no risk. What harm could happen? Oh no! You were involved in non-school related activities, you bad boy!

Yale is weird.

nspeds, what was the format of your activity list?

bumpity bump

Exactly like the chart on a regular application, but with more space for description.

How much did you write for each activity?

nspeds, if you don't mind my asking, why Yale? I mean, I'm not being critical, I really am just curious as to why you're not satisfied with Georgetown. You're the first guy transferring out of Georgetown I've ever heard of. And is there a reason you're applying to Yale specifically?

Again, not trying to be hostile or critical, I really am just intrigued.

I applied last year. I am most definitely not applying again.

It varied, depending on my involvement. For debate, an activity in which I was highly involved, I wrote two short paragraphs; I had to write a long passage since my list of awards distorted the table.

I only did explanations for my college extracurriculars...which look up about three pages. My list of high school stuff I just put in resume form.
