Activity Section Questions!

  1. I get paid to be an election judge for the upcoming election but running a polling place is seen as community service. Should I put Community Service (volunteer) or Work (paid) or Other Activity?
  2. Current events club – Academic or Other Activity?
  3. Freshman Advisor – Academic or Community Service (volunteer) or Other Activity?
  4. Played soccer most of my life through freshman year. I was on our freshman team but also played travel (club). Should I put Athletics: Club or Athletics: JV/Varsity? Our school has 5 different teams, so I'm not sure if the JV/Varsity is assuming that most schools probably only have two teams max or if it solely wants that level of play.
  5. When should I put post-graduate for participation if I haven't graduated yet? I have plans to participate in some of the same activities during my college freshman summer?
  6. What's the difference between selection "During school year" and "During school break" or just selection "All year" because it lets you choose multiple?
  7. Is the Activities section a good place to put my summer activities or should I put those in Honors under Education? I attended Yale Young Global Scholars and Economics for Leaders. If they go on the activities part, should I combine them under "Summer"?

Thanks so much for your help!!!

TBH, the differences between these is so subtle, that it really won’t matter if you inadvertently include in the wrong section. My 2 cents:

1/ work
2 and 3/ Academic
4/ Club, but really it’s a coin flip since you did both. IMO, Varsity/JV includes what some schools call the freshman squad/thirds/fourths, etc.
5/ Post-grad would be included if you did a fifth year at a different HS than where your 1st diploma comes from. If you did a traditional 4 year plan, list after graduation activities under 12th. Don’t list any activities that you plan to start in college.
6/ Again, flip a coin. If you did it during the school year, plus Christmas/Spring breaks, say school year + school breaks. If you did it year round, say year round.
7/ List under activities. You can combine all summer activities or you can keep it separate; it’s your call.

@skieurope THANK YOU! Very helpful and relieving.
