ACTs and UNC

Does anyone know how UNC looks at ACT scores because I have a 29 w/ out writing but then I took it again and I got a 26 with writing...I do not know my writing score yet but I sent it all along anyways. I'd appreciate any info you guys can give me.

UNC has a conversion chart which converts ACT scores to the rough equivalent of SAT. they do not prefer one over the other, and if you send both your SAT and ACT scores, they'll take whichever score that makes you look better in the admissions process.

Are you sure they don't prefer one over the other? In the CB's 2007 college guide book, it says UNC "prefers SAT, but accepts ACT".

Yes, I read that as well.

Then again, that book also said that NYU recommends SAT IIs when they actually require them, so who knows if what they say is really true or not. I'm still sending my ACT.

no, i went to the information session on campus, and the guy said that they accept both.

the only reason the guidebook says "UNC prefers SAT" is because 99% of the applicants DO send in their SAT scores..doesnt mean unc prefers them

I know they accept both, but I don't see why them recieving mostly SAT scores would warrant for it saying that they prefer SAT, since this is the case for most eastern schools.

I personally think the college board is evil.

I agree. They probably just want people to take the SAT again for UNC so they can make more money.

They said that they will look at ACT (especially if it's higher than your SAT) at Carolina 101

I know they'll look at it and they accept it. It just says in that book that they prefer the SAT for some reason.
