ACTs anyone?

seems like quite an undderrated test on this site, its all about the SATs.

i dont know about you guys, but i did much better on the ACTs

31 / 10 Essay

as opposed to

1830/ 8 Essay

anyone with any thoughts or scores would be appreciated

Hey, I'm going to take the ACT in September. I got a 2100 on the SAT, hopefully like u, I will have better success on the ACT. Congrats on ur improvement!

Congratulations! Thats awesome

thank you, and good luck on the ACTs

a 2100 is a very good score, and idk it just seemed like the ACT was a much easier test than the SATs, so best of luck, im sure you will do well

I got a 32 / 10 essay on my first ACT, and I haven't yet taken the SAT, but I got a 205 on the PSAT, which is like 2050. It should be higher than that when I actually take it, however. Congrats on great scores and good luck.

That's a wonderful improvement! I'm going to take the ACT in september as well, as my SAT score for the first time is a 2060.

Is the ACT studying VASTLY different than SAT studying?

id say so, you have a science portion that you take that is not on the SAT

and its not to much "science" as it is just logic.
the math seems about the same.
the reading portions are simlar
the english is much easier

i did better on the SAT

Here in the midwest, the ACT reigns over the SAT (There were 16 rooms of test-takers in June at the same school where there was only 1 room of SAT takers in the same month).

ACT requires strong time-management. Reading and science on the ACT is hit or miss, depending on your personal preferences. You have little time to get through everything. No penalty for guessing. English rhetorical skills I find easy but I get confused with some questions regarding comma usage.

SAT gives you more than enough time. I think SAT math is much easier. SAT reading is much harder - questions are less straight-forward I think. Penalty for guessing.

Also - the SAT curve is quite crazy in some ways (miss one, drop to 750, etc...).

ACT curve is generally lenient but is based on a modified bell curve. I received a 27/10 - which is better than 89% of other test takers so...

ON SAT I bombed CR (530), I did okay on Math (590), and I got an 11 on the essay to bring me to a 610 on writing.

I am not even putting the SAT on my transcript - I prefer the ACT so much more!

Hope I helped? PM me with any more questions/advice.

i definitely recommend the ACT for anybody who wants a lot of options in the test-taking process. i think everybody should plan on taking both tests at least once, to see which one seems more doable. colleges don't care which one you end up going with.

also, here's an ACT tip when it comes to guessing. a lot of students think the answer choices are evenly distributed within a section. this isn't the case. most sections favor one or two answer choices over the others. so instead of guessing on each question as you come to it, try leaving the questions blank if you don't know them on the first go-round. then, before going back to the questions you've left blank, take a "poll" of the questions you were sure of. see which answer choice came up most often. then use that knowledge to inform your future guesses.

In other words, if (A) came up most often in your correct answers, don't make the mistake of assuming that (A) is less likely to be correct for questions you left blank--it's actually more likely to be correct, because the correct answer choices are distributed unevenly. see what i'm saying?

of course, to use this effectively you have to be relatively certain of your answer choices. if you aren't, then i wouldn't recommend it.

(and definitely don't do this on the SAT! it's not a good idea there. :) )

yeah similar right here

1940 SAT (9 Essay)
33 ACT (don't know my essay yet, is it up?)

I would have gotten a good score on the SAT, but I must have accidentally shifted some of my answers on the writing or something so I only got a 630 (even though this is my best section and I was expecting 800)

So, SAT (one try): 2090

ACT (second try) : 34. (first try was a 30)

35 and 2130 (SAT should improve w/ 2nd testing tho). Yeah ACT is a lot cooler. :)

I love the ACT. SAT Math kills me, because of all of those stupid "logic" questions (if there are eight points in space, how many lines can one draw to connect them all without any intersecting each other? ...Or other stupid things like that). The ACT math is far more straightforward, in my opinion... Also, no penalties for guessing!

2180 SAT (because of my 620 Math!!! Ugh!!!) w/ 12 essay
34 ACT w/ 12 essay... and I got a 33 Math subscore! Or, possibly a 34? Eh, I forget. I get my practice test scores confused with the real ones... hee, hee.

ACT >>>>>>>> SAT!!!!

Umm, I got a 34 ACT and 10 Essay... with a 35 Reading. On the SAT, I got a 2060 SAT and 8 essay... with a 660 reading. The descrepincy is due to the fact that the ACT is logical, and the SAT tends to be "tricky" in its questions. In addition, my vocabulary is... limited and the ACT does not test on this criteria which helped immensely. Also, the math on the ACT is straightforward, and if you know how to do what they are asking (trig is there 36), you should get the answer. On the SAT, sometimes it takes some trouble to even figure out what they are asking, but the math on the SAT is lower level. (only alg 2 and lower and 760) SO I'm thinking that for math/science people, the ACT is the better option, but for humanities people, SAT is the way to go. Anyways, try each at least once. One major drawback about the ACT is that the subscores do not combine when you retake the test.

SAT 2220, 770 CR, 750 M, 700 W 1520 cr + math (schools still looking heavily at the combined CR + M)

Act 34composite: 35,35,33,34
one big difference is that you are penalized for wrong answers on the SAT and not on the ACT...technically, if you did not finish a section on the ACT, I guess you could just fill in the rest and cross your fingers

i<3act............

ACT Rocks!

1930 SAT =(

33 ACT!

Hopefully it'll go up more since I'll study this time! Maybe my SAT is on par with my ACT since there is nearly a year's difference between taking them, but ehhh.

Mmmm... I'd like to know where all these people are from... I just have a feeling people from New England (and maybe west coast) are going to be better at the SAT.

I'm unusual in that my SAT and ACT scores are entirely comparable (2170/32). Perhaps my SAT is even a little higher...

I do better with more time. The science KILLS me every time (lol, 23 the first time I took it) because I NEVER finish.

It's always struck me as odd that a substantial number of people who get <2000 scores on the SAT can pull off 33+ scores on the ACT.
