My guidance counselor mentioned that certain school accept ACTs in lieu of SAT IIs. Is this the case at JHU? And if ACTs can be submitted instead of subject tests, which would be preferable?

If you take the SAT, they recommend that you send a couple SAT IIs. If you take the ACT, they don't recommend that you send SAT IIs; however, note that that does not mean that they recommend not sending them. Send whatever combination makes you look best.

is there a preference in admission? i feel like I am not quite ready for my SAT II test so I would really perfer to take my ACT instead of my SAT II

If they preferred one over the other, they would say so.

so in JHU's case, no preference has been made?

The ACT and SATs (SAT Reasoning and SAT subject exams) are different exams so there is no "in lieu of" or "instead of" in the consideration of standardized test scores. An applicant chooses whether he/she wants to submit ACT with writing AND/OR SAT Reasoning. We require one of these exams and have no preference.

As far as SAT subject exams we recommend them. The recommendation is primarily for those submitting SAT Reasoning exams, but ACT test takers may also submit SAT subject exams. It is each individual's choice!!!

No preference -- send what you want.
