Actuarial Program at UNC

I'm currently a freshman at Pitt who mainly ended up going there because of scholarships and the impression that it had a well-structured actuarial program. However, I have grown to find out that this program leaves a lot to be desired, and I'm looking to head somewhere else. I have a very strong interest in Michigan, which has a phenomenal actuarial program; but I also noticed that UNC has a program. UNC would be a little cheaper than Mich, and from what I gather is very picturesque. So, basically, I wanted to see if there's anyone who's familiar with the actuarial program at UNC, so I can get a better idea about its structure and quality. Thanks!

UNC does have a “Decision Sciences” major in the stats departments, which includes courses directly related to the actuarial sciences. There’s also a student organization named CASO that holds minor events during the year introducing students to companies and internships. The program isn’t large, and I wouldn’t say that it’s structured that great. There’s also no component so that you’re automatically given an internship - they’re pretty competitive.

Hm, okay, it sounds like Michigan might be a better fit, although I may still apply. Thank you!

No problem! I definitely didn’t mean to sound negative. It’s just that I considered the program (I’m a math major at UNC) and wasn’t all that impressed.
