Actuarial Science Major

I am going to major in AS, and am wondering if any of you NYU students are also currently majoring in it. I would like to know some tips for succeeding in this major.

I want to become an actuarial scientist but I’m not in Stern, I’m in CAS, so I’m just majoring in math with a miscellaneous minor. But I plan on joining the Actuarial Society in Stern which is a club…well for actuaries. I heard it’s actually pretty active and friendly from a few of my friends who already go to NYU.

I am a rising sophomore who is considering actuarial science as a double major. I’m mostly thinking about it because the classes sound interesting. It is essentially like a combined statistics major and math minor. Obviously its a good choice if you want to go into actuarial science after college but even if you purse another business field it basically shows you have a good quantitative background. My advice: Skip Calc I and Calc II (if you can) if you want to double major in something else. If you have checked the requirements on their website you can see the major requires a lot of credits. Otherwise feel free to retake these classes as a gpa booster.

thanks for the advice guys I will look forward to joining that club to learn more about the actuarial science field.
