I am a wanna be Ada and a much older student (48), presently enrolled at Mount Wachusett Community College in Gardner with an 3.87 gpa as an Art Major. I went back to school when the shelter for homeless families I was a counselor at was shut down. Apparently the state deemed it "unnecessary" in their plan to stomp out homelessness .. (um ... why YES! .. they DO pick these ideas out of the STUPID hat! :P )

At the end of this semester I will only have 30 credits, with the spring it should be up to 45, how much of that is transferable? I honestly don't know. (so far my classes have been: 3 drawing , 2 art history, 2 sculpture, 2 painting, 1 2d design, 1 english, 2 creative writing, 1 philosophy, 1 journalism.) .. some of those classes may change as I find out what will or won't transfer, though the spring semester is slim pickins for class that I like, but will do what is necessary to up my transferable credits. (I think the more you have the better off you are .. ?? )

I am in the honors program here, currently sculpture is an honors class and I will choose another class to make into honors, well IF it's still considered an honors class if I leave it when I leave the mount and HOPEFULLY go to Smith.

Originally I had planned on getting my associates and graduating Phi Theta Kappa and as a Commonwealth Scholar, but I REALLY don't want to stay at the mount any longer then I have to. I checked out the class offerings at Smith and OMG!! There are sooo many more classes I would MUCH rather take than those offered at the mount!! (and this is not a slam against the mount in any way!)

I do want a degree in Fine Arts (studio arts) and will take a hefty load of different writing and lit classes, along with a few others that I would really like, and probably minor in something else. The mount IS great for getting you going, but now I feel like I'm just waiting (after this year) .. to get where I want to be, which, btw is SMITH! :D

I've really struggled in life and overcome more than even I can imagine at times and I did it .. LOL .. and FINALLY .. all these years later, I'm up on my own two feet .. but presently thinking, they need to be moving along from where they have been planted.

I'm in the Art Club, and will hold an office next semester.
I'm also in the Literary Magazine Club and a contributor to it.
I have written for the newspaper and with any luck, I will have my own bi-monthly column next semester.
Currently I am finishing up a project I originated, organized and participated in between writers and artists at the school, using each others works to inspire the other and will curate my first exhibition of the coupled works, opening in less than 2 weeks in the Art wing.
Another student and I are also working on a murals project, slated to begin next semester.
I also just joined the Women's Caucus for the Arts, the new chapter that is currently being set up in the Pioneer Valley. (I heard about it on YOUR paper's website! - pass it on!)

um .. atm I really don't know what else to add .. though I suppose I should tell you I've had so much fun being back at school and though it really has been great, it's weird to think at times that, "I'm in classes with "kids" who are younger than my 3 oldest!" lol .. I still have 2 more .. (and yes I know, as someone once remarked, "That's not "kids", that's a litter!).. one who is due to graduate and another in 5th grade who will be coming with me. (we live in Orange and are going to move to Northampton) ...

I am also not sure WHAT they want me to write for an autobiographical essay, there are so many different types and they didn't specify. They certainly sounded confident when I spoke to them in admissions on the phone, but in part, I'm sure, that's their job ... and reading how many are NOT selected of those who apply, I thought to ask here .. I got all scared about my chances .. :(

anything helpful would be appreciated .. thanks ..
