Has anyone run across an instance where a college identified a student on CC, read their postings, and it affected their application? Admissions officers, have you heard anything of this? Um…would you tell us if you had?
I’m not wild about everything that our S has been posting on CC, including info he’d rather not emphasize in his application(s). Since there doesn’t seem to be a Delete button for errant postings I’m wondering whether, in this age when employers are checking employees’ Facebook accounts, if anyone here has evidence that candor on CC is or has been used against an applicant?
If you dont want him to post his stats (like he did in the chance me forum for brown), then maybe you shouldnt post his stats as well (like you did in the who is applying to brown forum).
I wouldnt be worried. Adcoms dont look at this most likely.
What would you post here that you don’t want them to see? Something like: “I’m applying ED to <college>, but if I get into my State University, I’m going there.”? That would be really stupid.</college>
Major Ivy League level schools receive in excess of tens of thousands of applicants. Do they do the occasional Google check? Perhaps. But understand that most adcoms simply have 30-40 application files to review a day. Each day has an abundance work work - they don’t have time, energy, or even the will to go on CC and match up applicants with their CC names.
Granted, there are a few admissions representatives on this site who may take a peek at the ridiculous posts that make CC, CC. As long as you aren’t stupid and make posts like ‘do colleges use TurnItIn.com?! I’m using my sister’s essays!’, you’ll be fine.
