Adcoms = Cynics?

Do you think that adcoms are cynical when it comes to ECs? For example if you start a non-profit charity at sophomore year or all/majority of your ECs have sprouted in the last 3 years do adcoms immediately neglect them or are the ECs weakened?

I'd imagine they (adcoms) would be cynical but I'm a novice at the whole college application thing in America. Like if my ECs had for example (they are not/may not by my real ECs):

1) Started a school in a 3rd world country - 3 years
2) Debating - 4 years
3) Model UN - 3 years
4) Mock Trial - 3 years
5) Volunteer Work of other kind - 4 years
6) Tutoring - 4 years

Does this look bad that its only 3 year for most of them? Will they immediately think its purely for college and diminish its value? Thanks

no i don’t think they would think that

that’s really only for people who join stuff senior year - then it’s obvious you just wanted to put it on your app

No, it does not look bad…

No it doesn’t. 3 years means 10, 11, and 12 grade. That’s quite good considering most people do for 2 years, 11 and 12.

3 years is fine, just means you weren’t quite sure what you wanted to do freshmen year and it took a little while to find stuff. Now 4 years is better obviously, since its longer, but 3 years is still good.

Its if you only had ecs that you started senior year that you run into problems.

but what if you joined an EC senior year that you thought you wouldn’t have liked in previous years? like I just became interested in the medical field mid-junior year and im joining my school’s HOSA club senior year. joining that club has the right intentions

You might explain that in your application. Such a decision says something about your personality and character.

Do you really have to clarify that in your application?

If for example, you won various distinctions (like 3rd in state) in your senior year though it’s your first year in that EC? I mean, shouldn’t it be self-evident?

Or if you put in 13 hours a week in a new sport during your senior year?

where would you put that kind of notice? i moved in the end of 8th grade-beginning of freshman year to another state, then in the beginning of sophmore year, i moved back to my original homestate. So i never really had a chance to continue, b/c the requirements of the schools were totally different, and i spent some time trying to figure out what I wanted to do.

also, does continuity show if you’ve taken a class like a foriegn language for all of hs, or is it just in ECs that matter?

I think that most colleges have applications that include a set of lines where they ask you if you would like to clarify any part of your application without restating already-given information. You could use that to your advantage to explain why you joined an EC so late.
