Add Code For Class

I want to register for a class that requires contacting the instructor for an add code. There aren't any prerequisites and my academic background fits with the course's themes. Do I need to write a detailed e-mail explaining my academic and personal history and interest in the course or is a simple request for the add code sufficient? I neither want to write too much or too little.

I don’t know about that as I’m a freshman too. I thought I would post my opinion just in case you needed a quick reply. What I would do is to write a short intro about myself and my past that has relevance to the course and thus my interest in it, then end it of with a polite request for the add code. The whole thing won’t be too long, probably a few lines. I guess all it matters is to show that you want that course and that you need the course code, don’t think the instructor will think too deeply into what you are saying.

I’ve already received add codes in the past. Most of the professors reading them don’t really care who you are until the quarter actually starts and you show up and introduce yourself. There are a lot of people that ask for add codes and never end-up taking a course. Just write a brief, formal request for an add code along the lines of this:

To Professor So and So:

I’m very interested in blah blah. May I please have an add code.

Thank you for your time and help.

Your Name

Thanks for the input!

If you’re a freshman, ask for an add code closer to your orientation date. By default, they expire after two weeks after they’re issued.

I’m a transfer but thanks for the tip. I didn’t realize they expire.
