Add community college course to HS transcript?

I’m taking a course at my local community college next year. My high school allows adding it to the HS transcript.

From a college admissions standpoint, does it matter if my course is on the HS transcript or is the community college transcript enough? Does it look better to an admissions officer?

My daughter’s guidance counselor advised against having a college class added to her transcript because the high school wouldn’t weight it and it would bring down her weighted GPA. This was a regular college class (not community college) that she received an A in. She just sent a separate transcript through Parchment and left it off her HS transcript.

Colleges you apply to will want to see your college course records as well as your high school course records, so it is unlikely to matter for that purpose. It may matter for various purposes at your high school (GPA calculation, graduation requirements, etc.).

But note that if you later (while in or after college) apply to graduate or professional school, or transfer to a different college, the college records from when you took a college course while in high school need to be included.

Good to know, thanks. For me they actually weight it as a 5 on the transcript so there is that benefit.

got it. I was concerned whether they view the course as more “legit” if its on the HS transcript, but seems like they don’t. Thanks!
