ADD medication and NCAA drug test

I am going to be playing d1 tennis next year. I am diagnosed with add and am prescribed adderall for it. It has helped me so much with my school work and I have to keep taking it to do well in school. I've looked up how to deal with adderall showing up on a drug test but I havent found any Information via NCAA or my schools athletic page. Does anyone know how to deal with this? I am going to email the athletic department tomorrow and ask what to do next, but just wanted to see if anyone had experience with this.

Your athletic department will be able to help you to apply for a medical exception BEFORE you compete. For example, see here:
[NCAA Drug Exception | Middlebury](<a href=“NCAA Drug Exceptions | Middlebury”>NCAA Drug Exceptions | Middlebury)

You can get the exemption for Adderall but it will require a good deal of paperwork on yours and your doctor’s part. I have spoken to the NCAA (my D takes Concerta) and they were very forthcoming, but the paperwork is daunting.

Be prepared. It takes a good deal of time.

Also the pharmacology of the stimulants is that they have a very short T1/2 so holding off for several days before you compete will rid them from your system. Now, each person’s physiology is different and you might want to test to find out how long you need to be off the medication before the testing will be clean. Of course, as anyone who uses them for ADHD, they work like “eyeglasses” in that they have a very sharp “on” and very sharp “off”, unlike, say, antidepressants that require weeks before the effective level is reached and also require weeks to have them leave one’s system.
