ADD medication tips

A small tip: I have found that when seeking accommodations at college, and asking MD’s for letters/documentation, it can be helpful if the parent researches possible accommodations and then writes the letter him or herself, for the MD to sign, with a list of requested accommodations. Shoot for maximum accommodations and let the school know that your child would like access to these but may not use them all. Schools we have worked with actually suggested this approach rather than reacting after the fact to a crisis.

Mom60, I guess my daughter is doing the equivalent of “training horses all day.” She is not taking meds for her ADHD inattentive, at all - because she can’t. But in some ways I am grateful that she can’t. We’ll see how it all works out but right now, I am happier with her path than when she was struggling to fit college demands, despite her incredible intelligence.

Consider Adderall XR for the morning as it lasts longer so that she doesn’t have to remember taking short acting Adderall throughout the day. Then for the evening studying use a short acting Adderall at 5 mg, instead of 20 mg or 10 mg. You can get the shorting acting Adderall at 10 mg and cut them in half to make 5 mg.
