Adderall

So as a lot of you know the new hot drug in high schools and colleges i Adderall, or "the study drug." What do you guys think of this? Would any of you take it (if you didnt have ADD)? HAVE any of you taken it? I gotta be honest it does look kind of appealing.

Say what! No but here in detroit they have a drug that is killing all of these crackheads b/c they are mixing it with a cancer drug. :(

ohh i didnt mention yeahh it like helps you focus so you can study and thats why people in high schools and colleges use it...as a study aid.

But why would you use something that may have a not so pleasant side affect? Even if it does help study habits I think it is stupid to use a drug all b/c you can't focus. Unless you have add or something.

concerta baby, concerta

I was on Adderall for like a month during sophomore year. It didn't really help me study much more it just made me feel weird... like kind of like everything was in slow motion(not a normal side effect) and it also made me realllly irritable. So they switched me to Concerta, which worked really well for a few months until it started making me depressed and reallly dull so I took myself off the medication and have been stimulant-free since then. Even though my grades aren't as good as they could be on the Concerta, I am happy with my decision because I would rather get B+s/A-s and be happy then get As/A+s and be depressed. Even though they can help you focus, they have sooo many bad potential side-effects.

Adderal is sooo appealing!

Amphetamine has been around forever, for atheletes, truck drivers, pilots, soldiers, etc.

But messing around with brain chemicals (using ADD medication or antidepressants) is pretty dangerous because it can lead to dependance. The brain will never produce enough chemicals and you'll have to keep replenishing the supplies with drugs.

But man, I would do anything for some adderal, i've always had mild ADD, but I never felt the need to go through the hassle of getting consulted (I hear it takes forever, placebo pill trials and everything). Does anyone know if it costs a lot of money to be prescribed Adderal or Ritalin or equivalent drugs?

Insurance?

Im talking about people who dont have ADD taking adderaall(illegal). its supposed to obviously have a different effect. i dunno i saw it on mtv and primetime live

Yeah, I saw that episode of True Life.

Hmm i know some of my friends have snorted Adderall to get high...usually they drink with it too. I know some college kids who take it to study illegally and they say it works really well.

I think most students who take adderall illegally dont take it on a daily basis so as to study but take it before big tests, exams, or SATs b/c it helps your memory, at least that is what i heard

i took adderall once or twice... once i snorted it, the other time i swallowed it, neither time to study, just to try it. when i snorted it i didn't notice any feeling, but a friend in class made me notice that i was obsessively tapping one of my feet, although i didn't realize it before that point. when i swallowed it i was out at night and bought a pint of ice cream and kept grabbing plastic spoons because i wanted to share it with a lot of people... my friends were trying to make me put some back and i was like, "NO! I WANT TO SHARE!"

if you snort it though, be careful cause it's blue and you've got to make sure you clean it up...

p.s. if you're going to post about OMG how bad of a person i am, don't bother, maybe you should lighten up a little.

I'm not going to say you are a bad person for simply trying it, but honestly i dont understand the impulse to do so, it seems like a pretty stupid thing to do, especially cause it made you do things you werent even aware of.

it's not a serious drug and i wasn't really worried about it... sure, i was tapping my foot, but lots of people do that all the time without even realizing it (maybe it wasnt even the adderall) ;-) there were no other (bad) effects, really, and i'd known people who tried it before. some drugs aren't as serious as people make them out to be.

Yeah i wasnt trying to say you are a bad person cause i realize that there definitely is stuff that is a lot worse out there, i was just commenting on the fact that i dont think i would ever try any type of drug, even if i was at a school where i wouldnt get expelled for it.

id try it and probably will. i like to try new things haha/.

Go google modafinil. It pwnz Adderall. Virtually no side effects, no statistically significant tolerance/dependance, allows u to stay up for 90 hours straight.

If it sounds too good to be true, well, we don't know of the long term effects. But it doesn't do anything bad in mouse studies. Besides, it DOES sound too good to be true. The military has done so many tests of it.

The main drawbacks: prescription only, very expensive.

You could also try ordering adrafinil online (kind of legal), since it's not a controlled substance.

Yeah, it can often take forever. Groan. The ECG, and then somehow it said that I might have left ventricular enlargement, so now I have to get an ultrasound soon. Until then, I can't go on stimulant ADD meds, so I'm on bupropion. I don't really notice its effects. I'm predominantly inattentive, so there is pretty much no behavioral record of it (I was diagnosed with an autistic spectrum disorder however)

And caffeine gives me stomachaches. =(

What of the morals of such drugs? They're unfair - but so is having rich parents who are willing to hire tutors or other special services for you. They're hardly more unfair than that. Of course we can also say that genes are unfair too, but we get nothing out of that argument.

But then again, taking Adderall/Ritalin just BEFORE a test so that you're better than you normally are is less ethical than using the pills as a study aid. Besides, some people do better with caffeine than others.

But Modafinil - it only decreases fatigue - so yay.

That being said, modafinil isn't Adderall. It won't make you feel like you can do whatever you want - you just aren't tired. Really though, I doubt harmful effects would come out of occasional use of Adderall (once in a while).

It's how ADD kids could pull all-nighters though, perhaps. Since Adderall/Ritalin will only make them more normal. However, some ADD kids don't respond to Adderall. The response rateis usually 60-80%.

Paul Erdos, btw, went on benzedrine.

Modafinil is new, so many are reluctant to prescribe it until all other options are exhausted. But I know someone was prescribed for it, and the sole reason was to cram for exams. Why? The doctor couldn't think of any reason why not - he even consulted someone else about it.

That being said, ADD (primarily inattentive) is easy to fake because people with that don't get noticed for disruptive behavior, and the higher the intelligence, the later difficulties begin to show.

I however, have legitimate reasons to suspect I have ADD.

Has anyone tried megadoses of bupropion? There is a seizure risk, but heck, I can take a couple of seizures.

==
The key word is dopamine.

Besides, Cephalon is looking into even more potent "smart drugs." And such drugs are not so far away. If you want to stay up, look for narcolepsy meds. If you want to enhance memory and cognition, look for Alzheimer's meds. If you want to have REALLY GOOD attention span, ADD meds. If you want weight loss, ADD meds again.

Nootropics and ampakine.

This topic will only become more prevalent as the years go by.

Learning should NOT be competitive, but it is, which is why a lot of ADD drugs are considered unethical. And if it were not competitive, then far fewer people wouldn't take them [though not Paul Erdos]. But really - some people aren't as smart as others and is it their fault that they can't experience the joy of learning? (if they so desire it)

Even if modafinil were expensive, at $7 per pill, I'd still take it. Really, there arne't a lot of things that you really need in life. More books means more wasted money on books that u don't have time to read. So then, MAKE time. And modafinil is one way.

You might say that it could possibly accelerate aging (we don't know about that) - but hey, at least you're conscious for longer periods of time while you're still in your prime. Hell, I'll probably prefer to die at age 30 and have felt that time PASSED REALLY SLOWLY rathe rthan to die at 90 and feel time passing FAST.

Also, time perception IS subjective. There ARE experiments on it.
