How difficult is it to add a class that is closed? Is it possible - and if so what is the best way to go about doing it?

Two options:

(1) Go to the first day of that specific class. Sometimes the teacher will make an announcement before class starts on whether they will/will not be giving out special permission numbers. If the teacher is there before class starts, ask them before hand if they will be giving out special permission numbers to add a class.
(2) Meet with the department head and ask for a special permission number.

1 is your best bet.

2 is best if your son NEEDS to take the class because it is towards a major requirement.

If he gets a special permission number from that professor, all he needs to do is log onto the WEBREG site. Then add the class and they will ask you if you have a special permission #. Just enter the number and you are good to go!

Thanks for the info. A lot of the good electives are closed and since Freshmen can’t change classes until 9/2 he is anticipating problems.

mushroom blue, could you also e-mail the professor say one to two days before classes start to ask for/obtain a special permission number?
also, i’ve heard that many closed classes (i’m specifically referring to the sciences) open up during add/drop?

Yes, both are true wowyourecool. Lots of upperclassmen who were saving classes will drop right before the last drop day, but if it’s a class you really want to get into, I would definitely e-mail the professor first instead of waiting.
