As an assignment I had to make up a resume format for college apps this year. It is much more detailed than the common app. Is anyone submitting one to Brown? If so, how with the common app?
Thanks

You can just mail one separately if you want.

I added mine as a document under "Additional Information"

I did a resume and mailed it to Brown.

I added it as part of the common app but to avoid ****ing off adcoms i kind of shortened it. i also added something to the brow add. info area but that was something i had to let the admissions know about my grades and stuff

Oh...I already submitted the supplement with a very short optional essay but was about to add my resume to the common app optional section. I don't want to get the admin upset though but I have some info on the resume that doesnt appear in the common app. Should I take out everything that is listed already? it is 1.5 pages with everything...as you can see I am cutting this kinda close!

i dont think a resume is a good idea. maybe an extra activity list to tell more about ECs, but a resume seems sorta obnoxious to me. Since you're not applying for a job. I dunno though. It's just IMHO.

^^^I read the EXACT same thing in Acing the College Admissions Process (or whatever it's called) by this ex-Dartmouth admissions director. I did an activity list (like the woman in the book strongly recommended) with the same activities and a few extras that wouldn't fit/seemed awkward in the common app spot (like my internship) and gave short to medium long descriptions of my role in each.

I hate to say it but highschoolers don't really have "resumes" worth showing off most of the time. Activity list is what you are looking for. I actually incorporated my resume into my activity list and it ended up being pretty long. But I had real work experience since I didn't go straight to college so don't do that unless you're an exception like I was.

"resume"..... activities resume ...... duh haha add it to additional information

how long before you **** them off? the one I had to do was about 5 pages...... :-O

^ 5 pages in my opinion is way too long. I think it should stick to 1-2 pgs (mine was 2).

This discussion has been done already but some people prefer to keep in short. I had work experience and an activity list so mine was 4 pages. It didn't keep me from getting in. For a high schooler though, 5 pages is way too long.

Shoot. I just did a run down of my different activities....I spent forever trying to cut it down to 3 pages but i couldnt get it to happen....

gosh there are so many things i wish i'd down differently.
my school told me the longer the better. : x

guarantee they don't read all of it if it's 3-4 pages! so put your most important activities first. i thought the point of the resume was to give the admissions people better insight into your activities. listing probably isn't a good idea nor a dissertation on each activity. keep it as short and sweet as possible haha

I'm attaching one to mine -- the first page is all ECs and the second page is honors and etc.
