Adding in "other pertinent information"?

In my online application form (I'm applying to a professional school, but I figured this was a general enough question to include here), there is an extra optional box where we could add any "other pertinent information", up to a maximum of 500 words. What should I include here? Earlier in the application they asked for my employment history, so I suppose here I would include related extracurricular activities and volunteering? Or is this meant to be a place to explain any gaps or failures in academic records?
On one hand, I want to leave it blank because I'd probably do a better job explaining this in an in-person interview (interviews are supposedly given based solely on academic records). But on the other hand, I don't know whether it will be frowned upon if I leave it blank. Any opinions?

I had this one a couple of my apps too, I think its just logistical stuff. I don’t think its an appropriate space to try to explain bad grades or personal circumstances… I just wrote in mine that my parents sold their house and not to send mail there anymore to my “permanent” address.

its a grab bag box. Place there anything you would like added to your application that would help the admission committee rate your application higher (extenuating circumstances, explaining the extraordinary rigor of a particular program, etc).
