Adding more than six schools on FAFSA:

I submitted my first FAFSA and sent it to six of my schools. Then I made corrections and deleted those schools and substituted those schools with th eother six schools I'm applying to and I submitted it. All twelve schools get my FAFSA, right? Thanks!

Did you get the SAR from the first FAFSA before making the corrections? If so, the answer is yes.

Is it okay if the SAR came in an e-mail?

Can I still do corrections?

Yes -- as long as FAFSA has been processed and the SAR has been issued, you are o.k. to make corrections. If you get an email saying that its ready, then that's all you need.

Also, you can correct and resubmit to the SAME schools right?

can someone explain the process please? i don't get it; what is a SAR? i'm applying to 8 schools, and i need some help!

thanks

Here is what you do.

Submit FAFSA -- first 6 colleges
Example: Amherst, Bates, Carleton, Duke, Emory, Furman

Wait for SAR - This will be transaction #01

Go online and select "Make Corrections"

Open transaction #01 - delete all 6 college and add new set.
Example: Grinnell, Harvard, Ithaca, Juniata, Knox, Lehigh

Submit - this will be transaction #02

When you get updated info from your taxes, go back to the FAFSA site.

Select "Make Corrections"

Open transaction #01. This is the original SAR that had colleges A,B,C,D,E,F.
Update the financial information with the final numbers from your tax return.
Submit -- this will be transaction #03

Now, open transaction #02. This is the SAR that had colleges G,H,I,J,K,L. It still has the old numbers. Re-enter the updated financial information with the final numbers from your tax return.

Submit -- this is going to be transaction #04.

(If you have more than 12 colleges, adjust instructions accordingly). It is easier to update numbers than add colleges because of the way the web site is set up. It will be also easier in the long run if each FAFSA has a unique set of colleges and you are consistent about maintaining the same sets -- that way you know that every time you need to make a correction to data, you will be doing it to the same number of FAFSA transactions, and you won't have to worry about keeping track of which colleges have received which FAFSA.

how long does it take to recieve the SAR? and does it come in email or what?

I submitted the FAFSA on-line on Tuesday, January 31 (three days ago) and they sent me my SAR and EFC already! If you do everying on-line and submit an email address with your FAFSA, they will send you the EFC and SAR information via email. I got it today and it is only Friday Feb. 3. Make sure you and your child both get PINs (or print out out the signature page and mail it in) and electronically (or paper form) sign the FAFSA. This will hold everything up if not done.

As far as putting in corrections or adding schools, you can only do so after the SAR has been sent to you. So, the additional schools will have to wait a few days until the initial FAFSA has been fully processed.

Good Luck!

i submitted mine on jan 30 and mine still hasnt come!!

JJJNET, they probably just have not emailed u about it. Check the status, i'm sure its up.
