MotherLove, I just called FAFSA before reading this and the rep. verified it with someone there the exact thing you said

My D called today to 3 schools and only one of them received FAFSA. So all this talk about first come first serve is not so true? Some schools might not download until Feb?

Some schools, depending on their deadlines, don't start until later one - second week of Jan for those that require them Feb., etc.

***Don't start downloading until a later date - for ex. some won't start until the second week of Jan. if they have a deadline of Feb. 1st

I called fafsa customer service once again, and this time I did hear the same information as MotherLove.

So do we have a consensus? What is the best strategy for someone with a large number of schools? List the priority filing schools first. Wait for the sar showing their school codes, print out a hard copy , go in and make corrections (adding six other schools) wait for that sar showing the new school codes, print out a hard copy . Repeat as necessary for changes of info or additional schools. Is that about it? "If it's not on the sar, it's not in their jar?"

Motherlove is correct - I just got off the phone with a FAFSA customer service rep, who confirmed that as long as the student recevied confirmation of the SAR by e-mail, the information is available to the six schools listed. She also looked up my D's SAR, and said that even as of today, we can make the changes to delete the schools and add additional schools if needed. I feel there should not be any set limit to the amount of schools on the original FAFSA application, as it is difficult enough to complete without any other complications for adding schools to the original list.

Curmudgeon, I called another two times, b/c this is just too important. I was told what MotherLove and Merylinphillie was told today. So I will keep my fingers crossed  and hope

i'm so confused right now......so can i add schools after i recieve my SAR even if they say they havent received it yet on their "view application status" thing on their websites??? or od i have to wait until they confirm they have it??

Armani, as long as the US Dept. of Education sent you via email or postal mail that your SAR report is available online, the schools you listed will have access to any updates you have even if the school's "view application status" website does not indicate it received your info yet...it can mean that the school just didn't start uploading FAFSA info yet

MotherLove, I just read your post again. If we have more than 6 schools, meaning two editions of the FAFSA, do we have to update both editions eveytime we correct info, or will the colleges be able to receive updates from the edition that does not have their names on it?

Looking 123: From what I undestand, we have to update both editions every time we correct info.

Motherlove, I was told this too, and as you know, I called customer service a bunch of times to make sure that I can change those schools now. I was told that one needs to update both versions.
