Adding to the infinite number of chance threads...

<p>Let's get to the point: How solid of a chance do I have of being accepted Early Action into MIT?</p>

<p>I'm a senior, Asian, male - live in California. My school's pretty competitive. I know at least two people at my school who are applying to MIT, at least one who is applying Early. And boy, their chances are probably better than mine (from what I've heard from snooping... er... word of mouth: the one applying early has finished calculus in his sophomore year, is a freakin' genius, is taking college math classes, has around 10 APs, National Merit Semifinalist; the other has about 9 or 10 APs, is in the water polo team, is a swim coach, yearbook editor, also a semifinalist). And it's public. Does not rank.</p>

<p>Unweighted GPA: 4.00
Weighted GPA: 4.3?</p>

<p>ECs, Volunteering, Clubs, etc...
- A youth orchestra in the community (2004 - 2007, when we moved)
- Taekwondo (2004 - present) - I should technically be a third-degree black belt now
- A leadership program for Taekwondo, where I teach/assist (currently, mostly assisting) others (kind of recent)
- Participation in a summer symphony at UC Berkeley (first violin section)
- Volunteering at a children's hospital (do about 3 hours a week now, and I pretty much provide art activities to children in a waiting room)
- Co-founder and co-president of our school's first science club. Planning to participate in regional competitions (Science Bowl and Science Olympiads; planning for another competition is currently in a major crisis :/)</p>

<p>Awards:
- Uh... a PE award from my old school?
- A scholarship from the church I'm attending (based on your grades, activities, and basically character (particularly in terms of the church)) - It says for "outstanding leadership and service"
- As I said, I should be third-degree blackbelt... haven't received my certificate yet, according to my parents.
- I didn't become a semifinalist for National Merit, although I was commended and was one point away from the CA cutoff. >:(</p>

<p>Essays:
- Will most likely talk about a personal experience in middle school (which, in a sense, helped me make friends in the school that I transferred to in the 7th grade) and about the science club I'm running with my friend.</p>

<p>Recs:
- One's from my English teacher junior year. Pretty much excelled in his class (almost to the point of PWNage :P). Said that I'm his first student who's going onto AP English (seeing that he's only taught at our school for three years now). Pretty close with him, especially thanks to my writing, I guess?
- One's from my AP Chem teacher, as I've said before. Currently a TA for her. Also excelled in her class.</p>

<p>So... how solid of a chance do I have, in the context of applying early to MIT (if there is such a context)?</p>

<p>None of us can tell you what sort of a chance you have. You're clearly a top student in the context of your school, but your long list doesn't make it clear why you'd want to go to MIT, as opposed to Stanford, Yale, U.C. Berkeley, or Pomona. In the application, be sure to focus on clarifying the match between you and MIT.</p>
