Adding to/updating your application?

Hey,

Some of Cal's emails have made it sound like they don't want any updates to your application.

I've won an award and heard back from NMSC, should I email them, or is that contrary to their instructions?

I don’t think they want any updates. If it contradicts something on your original app (like dropping a planned class) it’s good to update them… for anything else, it’ll probably just make them think you can’t follow instructions.

Those were my thoughts as well! I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t misreading them. I am not going to send them anything. Complete radio silence. Nervous, slightly charged, radio silence. Thanks!

So is there anything else we should do besides update if we could not get into a (non-essential) class we listed as planned? Or simply update?

They pretty much say they don’t want to hear from you-- I thought there was a coda on that for major changes (like the situation you list above), but I wasn’t reading carefully for that. I’d go check their site if that’s the case for you!

There’s no point in sending anything now. I think they already made decisions for almost all freshman applicants. But I wonder if calling to update something important on your application would hint at your decision. If they take the update does that indicate an acceptance?

@TheUnderdog1 - Are you a transfer? If you are, and you can’t get a planned/IP class this late, you should probably call the schools and update them. If it’s not a pre-req/IGETC class, I doubt it’d affect decisions, but there’s a chance it’ll get you into trouble (or rescinded) if they don’t know.

Yeah I am a transfer. I called all the UC’s and surprisingly each one of them simply said update my transfer application. But I keep reading there is more to it from other people on the forums. Just nervous maybe I spoke to an uninformed admissions officer. But they told me to just update my app, I hope that’s all because it would suck if they didn’t tell me the full process and I get rescinded for “not informing” them.
