Addition Rec Letters

Can someone explain the process of getting recs from people such as internship mentors etc.? For example, after you invite them by email, do they have to print out their rec letter, sign it, and photocopy it/upload it? And do they have to do this for each individual school, or just upload it once to the common application link they receive (I have no idea what content it includes so I'm just guessing)?

Also, are additional recs common app exclusive, as in they won't appear on Naviance?

bump

If the person is not affiliated with the high school and you are in a Naviance school, then you add them to the “Other Rec” section of the common app and they are notified by email. It can be done online or you can get a paper version just like the other recommendations. If the person is at the high school, you add them to Naviance AND you have to add them to the common app.

As far as their letter of recommendation, I believe “Other Recommenders” is set up similar to “Teacher Recommenders.” They will receive an e-mail (after you list them with their e-mail) and invite them to create an account. For the “Teacher Recommenders” there will then be a series of questions for the recommender to rate the student. These questions range from academics, to leadership, to maturity, etc. Then the “Recommender” has a few short answer questions to respond to. Last, they then upload or can copy and paste their written letter of recommendation. Once you list them as a “Recommender” you can then add them to specific schools that you would want that particular recommendation to go to. It won’t need to go to every school to which you apply. It is up to you to click on the school on your college list under “My Colleges.” Then click on “Recommenders and FERPA.” At that point you can “Invite Teacher (Other Recommender)” or “Add Another.” You can also delete a recommender if you have some that you think are better than others. Again, this is for “Teacher Recommenders” which I am just guessing is set up like “Other Recommenders.” Perhaps someone can correct me if I’m wrong. I hope this helps.
