i have heard many students waitlisted at different schools that they are going to write additional essays. the general topic is about why they want to go to that particular school. i am thinking about writing another essay but not sure if swarthmore actually wants one. they said to only send in 'grades, awards, and other relevent materials'. should i send in an additional essay? if i should, what should i write about since i already wrote why i want to go as the supplement?

realestate:

If you have additional or new information that you realistically believe would increase your chances of being accepted off the waitlist, by all means send it. As you point out, you've already sent your "Why Swarthmore?" essay, so I don't think sending another would make much difference.

The reality is that there are 900 students offered a spot on the waitlist. Figure maybe 25 of those will enroll (give or take). I think it is wrong to offer false hope.

Do you have some other acceptances you are excited about?

thanks for the reply. i got into ucb ucla and ucsd but i dont want to go to a public school. =(

I understand. But, on the other hand, those three schools are pretty amazing places in their own right. They don't offer what Swarthmore offers, but on the other hand Swarthmore doesn't offer what those schools offer. Like Brentwood, or the wonderful Bay Area, or the San Diego weather. There are certainly avenues for a fabulous undergrad experience at any of those schools. It'll just be different than Swarthmore.

Which one are you leaning towards?
