Additional Essay in addition to the optional essay?

I have one more essay that I want to send it, and I don't want to take out any of the other ones. Would it be okay if I sent a 3rd essay?

how long are all of your essays, and what are they about?

haha all are over word limit so I guess I shouldn't

I think that it's not a problem if it adds something to your application. If it doesn't add a new dimension to you then just put it on your refrigerator and don't waste Harvard's time. They do have 20,000 other applications to read...

yes, pity their poor weary eyes and make it interesting to read.

are all of you sending in the ONE optional essay though?? i'm kind of questioning it. did anyone get in without doing this?

I'm sending eight essays.

They are all over the limit and each and every one of them shed new light on my personality. So I guess do it if you think it'll work for YOU.

Total word count is about 7,500. Yes, I know this is a very bad idea but if there's anything that's going to get me in---it's the essays.

Goodness gracious. Eight essays. It may shed a light to your personality, but try being in the admissions officers' shoes. Even if you have the most quirky and interesting personality on earth, they'd still be annoyed big time.

It's OK to send one or two additional essays, but six is simply crazy.

Ah. Never mind though. It's not like I've read them.

eight essays.

7500 words.

couldn't you have tried to be a little more concise?

poor admissions officers.

and i thought two essays, 500 and ~850 was bad.

Wow, did you two totally miss the sacrasm in MzLover3's post? hahaha.

How are you sending your additionally essay in addition to the optional essay?
I couldn't find a textbox for it on the Common App (unless you count the Additional Information box, but I was under the assumption that it was for comments on other parts of your application, or discussing extenuating circumstances).

^^
Yeah, I did.

i would say, follow your .g.u.t.s.

Paradox_master, guess we were fooled.

i'm sending an extra essay, only because looking back, my other two were really boring...lol

lol, when are you gonna send it in by? the 3rd?

well, the rest was on time, but I found a mistake in my application...addressed a letter to harvard correcting it, and thought I might as well send them a recent essay that is much better than my other two. bad idea?

I have an extra one that I'd love to send, but it's 1700 words. I think I'm gonna send it off anyway, it can't hurt in any way, the worst that happens is they don't read it.

I think that as long as the essay adds something important to your application (and adds to the picture you are trying to portray), you should send it. But don't send something just because you think it won't hurt, especially if it's incredibly long. Better to be short, sweet, and with meaning than to lose the meaning in the distractions of an extra essay.

Fixed it already, down to 1174 words. I wrote about a picture that was in a recent newspaper article of myself and another athlete posting the top 2 times in the states in a track event but he outleaning me at the line and the photo finish was in the paper. I sent a copy of the picture also.

I just realized this is the Harvard forum (I found this thread by searching for "Additional Essays", I'm sending this to Davidson, sorry guys.
