Additional Info - do they ignore it?

I've heard rumors (mostly on this message board) that Stanford will ignore anything in the additional info section. While it makes sense that they don't want to read pages and pages of redundant information about minor extracurriculars, I used the additional info to explain what there wasn't space for in the application. Like, there was a class I took about science research, so for the EC section I put "Science/ math", but that could mean anything so I wrote a paragraph about it. For work experience too, there wasn't space to put a range of hours/ week, and since I work during the school year and summer, I clarified that the hours/ week are different depending on the time of year.

Are they going to ignore this and then penalize me because I wasn't clear about my activities in the application? Since Stanford uses the commonapp, didn't they have to agree to treat it (and all parts of it) fairly and equally? Anyone know anything concrete about this (not just stuff you heard from other people)?

Thanks

i have the same question for the same reasons loool

Me too! Anyone?

Bump? I really want to explain about a familial situation, but there's no point if they're not gonna read it. ...

Ah, the mysteries of admissions. Does anyone (at least here) really know the answer? So, look at it this way: if you use the additional info section will it work against you? Likely not unless you totally thumb your nose at their requests not to send news clippings, etc. If something can't be presented elsewhere in the application (you can be somewhat creative in those "line items") put it down. Be as concise as possible.

I have this college admissions guidance program I'm using, and I was talking to them. They said that most colleges on the CommonApp will not look at a resume or something like that attached to the extra info section, but if there are some clarifications that need to be made (e.g., for me, I took Latin for two years at high school, but my principal canceled it, so I had to continue it outside of school), you can put them there. (but nothing that elaborate)

i explained why i didnt take many higher leverl classes fresh and soph years, cuz i was new to the US and didnt know wut they were, hopefully they read it cuz it really does make a difference

i explained the meaning behind an otherwise obscure award that stanford probably wouldn't recognize.
Like everyone else, just hope they give the additional info section at least a quick read.
