Additional Information as an Essay?

For the Common App's "Additional Information" section ,would it be appropriate to put another personal essay?

I want to let colleges know that I am passionate.

I think that would be overkill. The essays you have to write for the common app and any supplements should give a good enough picture of who you are. If not, consider revising the essays.

The additional info section, as far as I know, is reserved for any overflow of info (such as more ECs or awards that wouldn’t otherwise fit), or, in my case, a little blurb stating that I am graduating HS a year early.

Anyways, the colleges ask for any essays they want to see. You have to show them you are passionate through those essays.

It wouldn’t hurt though right?

It could. One admission person described it in the video on their site as showing immaturity and lack of judgment if you went over the five hundred words or provided information that wasn’t requested. The additional information section is meant to describe things that can’t adequately be explained in the fill-in sections of the common app. For example, foster care situations, excessive absences, changing schools many times, etc. I think you will be better off if you try to convey who you are and the amount of your passion in the essays they ask for. Good luck!

hmmm i see… I am a self motivated , first generation student and have taken almost 10 UCLA extension online classes outside of school… Should i mention this/?

That will be mentioned in other parts of the app, like the parents education section and classes taken.
