I've been working on filling out my Common Application for this upcoming year. I've finished most of it already (except for test scores and the essay...I'm kind of procrastinating on it). I've come to the "Additional Information" section, and I have no idea what to write! So far, I've explained a couple things about my transcript and elaborated on one of my top activities. What else could I include in this section? I don't want to write anything that shouldn't be included, otherwise people reviewing my application could see it negatively. But there is a lot of extra information that I could include as well (mostly just extra information about my extracurriculars). What do you all think?

You should use this space to explain any circumstances that have affected you during high school (depression, divorce, death of a loved one, etc.) if there is anything that could make an admission counselor confused - for example, my winter trimester of my junior year, I received lower grades than I usually do, so I took the opportunity to explain that. If you choose to write something here, make sure that you’re POSITIVE - talk about your struggle, but also mention what you’ve learned from it or what you will change going forward.

If you choose to use this space for something that is not really necessary, you run the risk of annoying the admission counselor.

How necessary is the info about your extracurriculars, and what would it add? Also keep in mind that many colleges have supplements that ask you to “elaborate on one of your extracurricular experiences.”

***Also, please note that everything you’re doing now will be erased. Common App deletes all accounts and their contents sometime in July, and then opens everything back up on August 1st. You will have to make a new account and start over from scratch. I made the same mistake when I was a rising senior.
