Additional information/required explanation given equal weight as the main essay?

Hey guys! They problem I have right now is with choosing a prompt for the common app. I'm divided between the identity and the failure one- I feel as though with the latter, I can tell a more specific story that may set me apart from other applicants even though I do feel that my background is central to who I am. I grew up with a lot of change, moved abroad when I was 17 and started living alone. I've drafted an essay for the 'identity' topic but I'm now thinking that I could move that essay to the Additional Information/Required Explanation part and then on top of that tell a more anecdotal story with the failure essay? Do you guys think this is a good idea? Or do some colleges not care much for the optional additional information?

I would like if someone answered this question soon. I have the same question.
