Additional Information Section

I've read some posts about what to put here and what not to put here, and I know that some people say not to add something unless you are explaining bad grades or something. However, I love writing poetry, and I think that some of it is really good. Could I put a poem into this section?

It would be far better your work were published on a literary web site, or, still better, in a university or literary magazine. Then you can provide references to the publications. Otherwise extra info that is not asked for will not help, and may hurt, your application.

Okay! Thank you for explaining that!

If you have it published you can talk about that. Or you could send an art supplement if your poetry is truly good (but… get an opinion from someone – maybe an English teacher and your guidance counselor before you send). But don’t put it in additional info. That is for putting some additional bullet points on your EC awards, etc. that you couldn’t fit it, listing an MOOC class that doesn’t fit in anywhere else on the application, and other stuff like that. I wouldn’t even use it to explain bad grades (I would ask the guidance counselor to provide an explanation in their recommendation, assuming it is something like health issues, family problems, etc.).
