<p>Is it advisable to upload a document, or to type within the box with the character limit? The former allows you to go over the limit, but are Adcoms more likely to read the latter?</p>

<p>They’ll read it either way. I would say that if you just have a little bit of information, just type it directly into the box. If you are putting a lot, like a resume, then I would attach a document.</p>

<p>The box doesn’t work right. It says 1000 characters max, but the PDF cuts off half of these. So I just expanded it to about half a page and uploaded it. </p>

<p>The Common App character count is more of an estimate than a strict specification. It’s not exact because the font that they use gives different characters different widths. For instance,</p>
