I’m trying to upload an additional letter of recommendation, but Amherst doesn’t have a category on the Common App that allows me to assign the additional recommender. But on their website, they explicitly say that you can send in additional recs if you feel they would boost your app. Do you have to get them mailed in or is there a way to submit online later?

Just email someone is the admissions office and ask.

I had a similar problem, so I have checked with admission office. You just add the recommender as a teacher. He will need to explain he isn’t actually a teacher in his recommendation.
@Summer2018 what if our school uses Naviance Edocs? I have no control over who to add as a teacher
I don’t really know, since my school doesn’t use Naviance. I think you should email the admission office and ask them.
